While on routine patrol, Officer J. Schwarz observed a suspect vehicle idling in a closed business parking lot. Officer Schwarz observed the driver, later identified as a 40-year-old male from Greensboro, NC, to be slumped over behind the steering wheel and recognized the driver was possibly intoxicated by alcohol and or drugs. Officer J. Chichizola arrived on scene as backup and both officers attempted to awaken the driver. The driver became responsive and began to accelerate his vehicle forward, striking a snowbank. The driver then reversed his vehicle, striking a patrol vehicle. The driver was removed from the vehicle, placed under arrest, and transported to HQ for processing. The driver was charged with numerous summonses, including DWI and one count of Resisting Arrest on complaint warrant. The driver was ultimately transported and remanded to Bergen County Jail pending mandatory court appearances in Emerson Municipal Court and Central Judicial Processing (CJP) Court in Hackensack.
