While on motor patrol, Officers J. Chichizola and J. Schwarz performed a motor vehicle  stop after observing CDS related activity and a suspected hand to hand drug transaction outside a local convenience store. The defendant, a 36-year-old male from Paterson, NJ, had fled from the vehicle prior to the police encounter but was observed to have been driving the vehicle and exiting the vehicle. The codefendant, an 18-year-old male from Woodcliff Lake, NJ, made admissions that the defendant was dealing controlled dangerous substances from the vehicle, specifically Promethazine. Another co-defendant/occupant of the vehicle, was identified as a 28-year-old male from Paterson, NJ, was identified and found to have (3) active warrants for his arrest. Subsequent to a narcotics K9 alert on the vehicle, a probable cause search yielded suspected oxycodone, suspected Alprazolam, a suspected bottle of Promethazine, and 2 pairs of metal knuckles. The absentee defendant was charged on a complaint Warrant with multiple counts of Possession of CDS, (2) counts of Weapons Possession, Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons, and multiple motor vehicle citations. The co-defendant was arrested, transported back to headquarters where he was charged on a complaint Warrant with Possession of CDS and Paraphernalia and ultimately transported and remanded to the Bergen County Correctional & Rehabilitation Center (BCCRC) pending his first appearance at the Central Judicial Processing (CJP) Court in Hackensack. The third co-defendant was also placed under arrest for (3) active warrants: (2) out of the Wayne Municipal Court totaling $1,500 and (1) out of the Haledon Municipal Court for $750, and was transported back to HQ and turned over to the custody of the Haledon Police Department.
