OEM Notice to Residents Covid-19 3-18-20

EMERSON POLICE/ COVID-19 Updated Police Procedures

The Emerson Police Department is asking all residents to be aware of the following new procedures we will be following to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We will continue to provide the quality service our residents are accustomed to. But in light of the current situation, we must take extra precautions to protect our officer’s, their families and the community as a whole. Listed below is information on some of the changes we will be incorporating:

  1. Our dispatch center will be asking additional questions on all medical calls to help screen potential COVID-19 infected people.
  2. Officers will not be entering any homes unless it is absolutely necessary to save lives. Officers will still be responding on calls for service but will be keeping   a  safe distance from everyone they come in contact with (6 feet). If necessary, they may be wearing protective equipment, mask, gloves etc.
  3. If we are contacted with a non-emergency call, we may utilize telephone communications to prevent unnecessary face-to-face contact.
  4. New Jersey has a hotline in place for any questions regarding the virus. Please call 1-800-222-1222 or 1-800-962-1253. You can also find additional information at nj.gov/health.
