School Crossing Guards

It shall be the responsibility of this unit to supervise and train new and current school guards in the proper techniques regarding the safety and welfare of all pedestrian traffic within their assigned posts. The applications for new school guards shall be approved by the Chief of Police with a complete criminal background check being conducted by the Detective Bureau prior to their appointment. The dissemination of the proper equipment and uniforms, including their required use shall be the responsibility of the unit coordinator.  Any issues of concern regarding the safe and efficient conduct of the school crossing guards shall be immediately reported in writing to the Executive Officer.  The unit coordinator shall see to a periodic evaluation of all school crossing guards to ensure that the proper techniques and equipment are being used. Written confirmation of that inspection will be forwarded to the Executive Officer.
