Detective Randy Velez
Shield Number 834

I enlisted in the New Jersey Army National Guard in 1997. In my 8 years of service, I served as a motor transport operator, assistant recruiter, and as a drill instructor for the 1st Solider Support Battalion in Sea Girt, NJ. In 1999, I was awarded the Army Achievement Medal for meritorious service in Camp Darby, Italy. I was hired by the Emerson Police Department in June of 2002 as a civilian dispatcher. In September of 2006, I was accepted into the Alternate Route Program at the Essex County Police Academy, where I graduated as the Executive Officer of my class. I was appointed to the Emerson Police Department in 2007. I am currently assigned to the Patrol Division, Photography Unit, and Dispatcher Unit. In October of 2010, I became a certified D.A.R.E. instructor assigned to the D.A.R.E. Unit. I also serve as the Emerson Police Honor Guard Commander. I am extremely grateful to have achieved my career as a police officer with
the Emerson Police Department. Being able to have such a great relationship with the Emerson community makes my position very rewarding everyday.
