Emerson Office of Emergency Management
Welcome to the Emerson Office of Emergency Management Web Page. This web page will keep our residents informed before, during and after an emergency or disaster that will affect you as a resident of Emerson. Our goal is to offer you information to prepare for impending storms or sever weather, natural or man-made disasters, or any threat or act of terrorism. We will provide you with updates during any event and give you the information you will need to help you recover and return to normal.
Municipal governement is recognized as the first line of official public responsibility for Emergency Management activity. The Emerson Office of Emergency Management’s role is to focus on the planning effort, to develop and maintain an ongoing program of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. It is not a separate unit or action group separate from the normal functions of government. The Emergency Management Coordinator serves the Mayor as the Chief Executive. It is his job to coordinate all the emergency services, DPW, Board of Health, Board of Education, Building Department, and Borough Administration as well as various other local, county and state organizations. The Emerson Police Department is the lead agency due to the fact that our police desk is manned 24 hours a day and receives information from local, county, state and federal government organizations on a regular basis.
To assist us in the planning process and to help us keep you better informed, the Borough of Emerson has contracted with SwiftReach Networks. This company offers us a way to contact a large number of residents in a quick and efficent manner by using a reverse 911 system linked to your home telephone number. However, we ask that you click on the “Swift911” link on the homepage and sign on to the service in order to give us additional contact information. Caregivers should also sign onto NJ Register Ready. There is no cost for this service and all information provided is confidential.
